Many students ask whether they need to provide information about their parents’ finances. They also want to know how we determine whether a student is eligible for scholarships and/or low-interest loans.
In order to help you decide whether or not to provide parental information or to see if you qualify for university scholarship funds, you can use the Financial Aid Estimator on the web. This tool will allow you to enter information about you and your parents. It will then calculate an Estimated Family Contribution. Please note that this tool is geared toward undergraduate students, so there are a few things you must do to get an accurate estimate for graduate and professional students.
First: |
Change the “Need Analysis Methodology” to “Institutional Methodology.” |
Second: |
Use 2008/2009 for the award year |
Third: |
Identify yourself as a dependent student. |
Fourth: |
Be sure the number of family members includes yourself, all members who live with your parents and any siblings who are attending institutions of higher education |
Fifth: |
Including yourself, count all members of your family who are attending at least half time. |
Sixth: |
Enter an estimated Standard Student Budget |
Seventh: |
Calculate you and your family's resources. |
If your "need" is less than the unit loan, you will not have to submit your parental information. You will not qualify for Yale Scholarship or Yale Low Interest Loan funds.
